County Extension


The Mississippi State University Extension Service provides research-based information, educational programs, and technology transfer focused on issues and needs of the people of Mississippi, enabling them to make informed decisions about their economic, social and cultural well-being.

Extension program areas include:

  • Master Gardeners -Through this programs, individuals are trained and certified in consumer horticulture and related areas. In exchange for 40 hours of educational training, individuals are required to return 40 hours of volunteer service within one year of their training. This service should help the county Extension Office with horticulture projects and benefit t heir local communities.
  • 4-H Youth Development – Programs help young people develop knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable them to become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society.
  • Agriculture & Natural Resources – Programs support the largest sector of Mississippi’s economy, reaching farmers and agribusinesses that account for up to one-third of the state’s gross economic product.
  • Enterprise & Community Resource Development – Programs cover a broad range of needs for local communities and businesses including economic analyses, business development, retention and expansion; retail development; facilities and services; strategic planning; tourism; and organization development.
  • Family & Consumer Sciences – Programs provide information to meet local needs and address current issues such as family development, financial management, parenting, home based business, nutrition, health, food safety, housing, clothing and consumer education.
