Family & Social Services

Department of Human Services

The goal of the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) is to help Mississippi families become completely self-sufficient. It provides temporary assistance for families in need, leads the food stamp program (SNAP/TANF) and works within each community to create partnerships with local organizations. No appointment is needed to visit the office or to apply for SNAP benefits.

In Lafayette County, SNAP members who shop at the Oxford Community Market receive a dollar of market credit for every dollar of their benefits spent. The Lafayette County office of MDHS has several other valuable partnerships within the community. Visit the MDHS website to learn more.
