Lafayette County Board of Supervisors Approves Burn Ban

The Lafayette County Board of Supervisors approved a countywide burn ban Monday night because of ongoing drought conditions and a lack of rainfall.

The ban is effective immediately and will remain in place for 30 days, unless the Board lifts it sooner. While it is in effect, outdoor burning is prohibited in Lafayette County, including in the unincorporated areas.

“Dry conditions have made it easy for a small fire to become a large one,” said Board of Supervisors President Brent Larson. “This ban protects our residents, our property, and the firefighters who respond to these calls.”

Residents who see smoke or flames should call 911. The Board will review conditions and lift the ban when rainfall and fuel moisture improve.
